Your Questions Answered

ARE REFERRAL FEES ETHICAL?

Yes, but the fee arrangement must meet the requirements of the Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct.

WHY SHOULD I REFER A CASE TO LONATI LAW FIRM?

When referring a case, you want to make sure the client has the best possible experience and gets results. This is because when referring a case to another lawyer it is a reflection on you. Therefore, we take our relationships with referral attorneys very seriously and our goal is to have each client satisfied at the end of their case.

When a case is referred to us the bottom line is that we will out work any other law firm in every aspect of the case. Here are a few reasons why you should choose us as your go-to referral source:

1) Less Cases – we limit the amount of cases we handle so that we are able to focus on each client. Unlike the billboard/tv commercial firms, our firm gives each case the attention it deserves throughout the entire process.

2) Aggressive – we want to resolve cases as soon as possible. It does not benefit the client to wait years for a recovery. While other firms may wait until the last minute to file a lawsuit, we file the moment we realize it is in our client’s best interest and push for a trial date as soon as possible.

3) Never prematurely settle – We do not recommend settling a case without knowing the full extent of the client’s injuries. Until we know each factor that determines a case’s value, we do not know the full value of the case and will not take the low-hanging fruit.

4) Experience – We take cases to trial regularly and have a record of obtaining judgment/verdicts above the last offer from the insurance company. Even though most cases do settle, it’s important to have an attorney who is ready, willing, and able to try a case if it cannot be reasonably settled.

HOW MUCH IS THE REFERRAL FEE?

The exact amount is on a case by case basis depending on the total settlement, judgment or verdict. It also depends on the type of case as well as whether the referring attorney wants to participate (co-counsel) the case. Therefore, because of the wide variation and working relationship, the referral fee is dictated by the specific relationship for each individual case. For additional questions and/or to find out specifics, please call and ask to speak with attorney Mike Lonati Jr.

A trustworthy Georgia personal injury lawyer can help you navigate the specifics of each of these cases in court.

HOW MUCH WORK DOES A REFERRING LAWYER HAVE TO DO?

The referring attorney can do as little or as much as they want. In some situations, the referring attorney does no work but for making the introduction between the potential new client and our firm. If on the other hand the referring attorney wishes to actively participate in the case, we welcome the opportunity to co-counsel on litigation cases.

In either scenario, the client will be taken care of as if they were family and we will keep you informed of the case status. Our firm focuses strictly on personal injury cases and therefore is set up to handle every aspect of the case from the initial consult to trial.

I AM CURRENTLY WORKING ON A CASE BUT NEED HELP WITH LITIGATION?

Our firm’s preference is to be brought on prior to the filing of the lawsuit. In other situations, a lawyer may think that by simply filing a lawsuit that a settlement will occur. Later this attorney discovers a lot more work needs to occur before a settlement is possible and depending on the facts, we can be brought in after the litigation process has started.

At the end of the day, some cases just need to be in litigation and some just need to be tried. Bottom line is after working the case, we consistently beat the insurance company’s last offer.

HOW DO I ATTRACT PERSONAL INJURY CASES SO THAT I CAN REFER THEM TO YOUR FIRM?

Many firms receive multiple calls about personal injury and wrongful death cases and the attorneys do not even know about it. For example, if a firm only handles criminal or family law, many receptionists will tell the potential or their current client who is asking for help with their car wreck that their firm does not handle car wreck cases and to look on Google.

By choosing to work with Lonati Law Firm, we can provide your staff with simple intake forms that your staff can use to begin the process of accepting injury and/or death cases. The passive income your firm can make by retaining these cases and referring them to our firm can create some substantial fees over the years.
